We believe that music is an integral part of the total education program. Therefore, the philosophy and objectives of Manasquan High School are encompassed in and supplemented by the goals of the Music Department. Music is a form of self-expression. It is the easiest and most assimilated of the arts and is a constant companion to each and every one of us in our daily lives. It has become an inescapable phenomenon of present-day society, as well as the most readily available of all art forms through the various media of communications. The school, as a leading force in the development of the student, should provide musical opportunities enabling each student to gain from those personal values of creativity and aesthetic enrichment, mental and physical solace, and artistic satisfaction. The general objectives of the Music Department are the same as those of the school as a whole. The individuality and importance of the Music Department is found in the means by which those common goals are confronted and attained. Our goal is to develop in each student the ability to understand, appreciate, and create music to the extent that they shall be enriching their lives and preparing themselves for further study or careers in instrumental music. Music deals with the personality and emotions of the student. Music becomes a means of personal growth and an outlet for the student's true self through an artistic approach. The greatest benefits of the instrumental music program are often realized long after graduation when the habits and attitudes learned in high school help the individual find personal enjoyment, relaxation, mental consolation, and artistic satisfaction. |
