Russ Moy |
A native of Elizabeth who lives in Union, Moy is a veteran drummer who is active on the Jersey jazz scene, playing with Tomoko Ohno, Rio Clemente, Bob Ackerman and Pam Purvis, the James Dean Big Band and many others. He is also an established music educator who owns and operates the Russ Moy Drum Studio in Union. |

Rio Clemente |
A native of Morristown who lives in Randolph, pianist Clemente is a graduate of Juilliard who has played with many of jazz's best, among them Coleman Hawkins, Bobby Hackett, Clark Terry, Milt Jackson and Bucky Pizzarelli. Active on the Jersey jazz scene, his latest CD is "Rio Plays Fascinating Rhythms." |

Bernard "Pretty" Purdie |
A native of Elkton, Md,. who has long lived in Springfield, Purdie is a dynamic, versatile drummer who has played and/or recorded with many giants, including Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Aretha Franklin. He has played on literally thousands of sessions, among them Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" (RCA), James Brown's "Say It Loud" (King/Polydor), Gillespie's "Digital in Montreux" (Pablo), Quincy Jones' "Walking in Space" (A&M) and Rahsaan Roland Kirk's "Blacknuss" (Rhino/Atlantic). He currently plays and records with Masters of Groove and the Hudson River Rats. |

Bob Ackerman |
Saxophonist-composer Ackerman is a native of Irvington who also resides there. He has played and/or recorded with such diverse artists as Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Wilbur Morris, John Coates Jr., Bob DeVos, and Pam Purvis, his wife. An expert on saxophones and woodwinds, he owns Progressive Winds, based in Irvington, and has contributed articles to many music journals. His recent CDs include "A La Mode" (Chase Music), "And Now I Can See Crows Mating in the Mist" (Cadence), and "If I Think of Something, I'll Let You Know." |

Singer Purvis was born in Bogalusa, La., and now lives in Irvington with her husband, saxophonist Bob Ackerman. Marlene VerPlanck |
Born and raised in Newark and now living in Clifton, VerPlanck sang with Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, where she met her husband, J. Billy VerPlanck. VerPlanck did studio work from the 1960s to '80s, and now focuses on performing. She is a gifted interpreter of the Great American Songbook. |
